here is a copy of the information that I discussed on thursday at the meeting. its a little unorganzied but the idea is clear. we need to define the workings of the garden. please look over this and make comment. i will use the comments to adjust what I have and get it in order, then in a week or two i will post the updated version again. thanks......
Things to Consider
(we need a calendar that has our goal deadlines such as when PR needs to start for plot applications, when workshop need to be scheduled by, etc)
Available plots will be assigned based on need. This will be determined through an application process. Application will be available in March (for this year have in April) and can be picked up at (location here)
Renewals will be granted based on the plotholder?s particpation in the garden, as well as on the commitment that was shown during the previous season. Renewal requests are to be received by so that the gardens leaders can prepare for the number of beds that need to be assigned the following year. (need to prepare a renewal application as well to be updated at the end of the season)
At the beginning of each season the plotholders will get together with the Community garden ?board?(need a different title here for those that are in charge) for an orientation session. All plotholders are expected to attend. During this orientation, new plotholders will recieve a packet of info containing guidelines, membership riles, scheduled work periods. Plot holders will also sign up for their garden attendant shifts.
Workshops will also be discussed (will these be planned by march or so)
Members are required to work one 4 hour shift per month as garden attendant. Responsibilities during this shift will be to open tool shed for fellow gardeners, provide assistance to other members and volunteers by answering questions and going over procedures, cleaning up the garden of any trash that may be around, making sure all tools are cleaned and put away at shift end.
Please wear your Leola street community garden shirt (or vest?) so that you are easily identified by others.
Some members and volunteers will be provided with a tool shed key. There will be a $@ replacement charge for lost keys.
Important dates:
Seasonal Gardening opening dates and activities
Seasonal gardening closing
Renewal applications should be submitted in the fall? So that cover crops can be planted. Or will cover cropping be provided by the garden?
What will dues be used for? To buy tools, maintanence and operation expenses, insurance, advertising etc,
Membership meetings are an opportunity to learn about garden activities, participate in decision making, and make your voice heard. It is the responsibility of each individual member to keep informed of the issues and concerns facing the garden. Notify a member of the steering committee if you cannot attend the meeting. Meetings are held the last Thursday of each month either on site or at the cooperative extension.

Becoming involved
How can I as a citizen of Boone as well as an environmental planning student at ASU become involved in the Leola Street Garden and the Appalachian Cooperative for Progressive Sustainability?
