Putting the gardens to Bed and Building the Soil in your Garden

Fall is a critical time in your garden. With the cool weather and more rains, fall is the best time to begin next springs garden. It is a most important time to grow and nurture your soil! This is an opportunity to feed the earth that feeds you. Weeds grow all winter long if you let them, so get ahead of that now. Putting the garden to bed in the fall makes spring planting season much easier as we do most of the soil building in the winter months.

This hands-on workshop will set you up for success in next spring’s garden. We will cover garden sanitation, weed control, soil enhancement, winter crops, composting, cold frames, Winter cover crops, and mulching.

We will learn tips on how to ‘Work Less and Get More Done’ in the garden so that your garden labor is much more enjoyable. Good soil makes gardening so much easier! There is nothing more satisfying than to have your garden beds all clean, fed and ready for spring. You can then rest in the heart of winter knowing the soil is protected and growing, while you are pouring over the seed catalogues, and dreaming of next years bounty.

If you follow what you learn in this workshop every year your garden and it’s soil will get better and better, with very little effort on your part.
